Edvard Grieg: Peer Gynt. Suites N° 1 & N° 2

No boy lives in a bigger castle than Peer Gynt. No boy rides a cloud-horse faster than Peer Gynt; no boy is more famous for quarreling than Peer Gynt; and no boy has a mother who, just before she dies, sets her son a task: Peer is to find “The Self” that will make everyone happy. Peer Gynt sets out on his quest and encounters fantastic and surreal figures between dream and reality: troll princesses and troll kings, the dangerous button caster and Mr. Black, the cool black sheep, who has a special tip in store for Peer: He may remember a secret that the girl Solveig once told him… “‘Peer Gynt’: A Musical Fantastic” is a symphonic tale based on motifs from Henrik Ibsen’s famous poem and deals with questions of locating oneself in the world, being a child and growing up.
