ARAMEH

New commission for the young dancers of InDance International Barcelona with the music piece ‘L’Après Midi d’un Faune’ by Claude Debussy

Creation process: 12th – 23rd February 2024
ARAMEH is driven by the idea that land is inherently itself, free from
imposed nationality or cultural constraints, exteriorly imposed identities – similar as our body is. This conceptual foundation intertwines the essence of the earth with the human body, viewing both as accumulations of diverse materials — minerals, earth, blood, water, and air, skin, bones, flesh. The choreographic vision meticulously weaves together textural memories of the elements of land, leveraging sensorial experiences and memories linked to the “land of our body.”

In a unique dance of movement, ARAMEH draws inspiration from natural phenomena, seamlessly relating them to the human form. The analogy of rivers flowing through the countryside mirrors the intricate network of veins within our bodies, fostering contemplation on the interconnectedness between the micro and macro, the earth with its elements and the body with its specificities. It provokes thoughts on how humans interact with the materials of the Earth, akin to the way other natural phenomena engage with their surroundings.

The abstract form of ARAMEH serves as a canvas that opens new perspectives on the human body in interconnectedness to our environment. Images transcending through it are not only a representation of physicality but a profound exploration of the relationship between the body and our planet, our experience of both perceivable through the diversity of our senses.

Methodologically, Elisabeth will draw on her long-term research titled The Manifold Body, a movement language rooted in the choreographer’s extensive research on sonic, haptic, and visual textures, taking on her specific artistic signature through both interspatial and rhythmic relationship among elements.

ARAMEH proposes an intricate choreography, accumulating a multitude of textures, relationships of action and consequence, which opens our imagination to newly formed images. The work aims to not only fuse and juxtaposs the movements but also allow them to coexist harmoniously in a minute relationship with the accompanying music: Claude Debussy’s ‘L’après midi d’un Faun’. A classic in musical repertoire, this music will make the work accessible and relatable. The open, rhythmical structure will allow for an intricate rhythmical play within the dance, where music and dance play off each other, yet co-exist and at times sophisticatedly contrast.
  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The fusion of these elements in ARAMEH creates a multi-dimensional experience, inviting audiences to witness and contemplate the beauty and interconnectedness of the earth and the human body in a profound, artistic, sophisticated yet aesthetically accessible manner. An eclectic accumulation of multi sensorial imagery will offer a captivating experience for both young and old.
