Desmōtēs is a performance that unites diverse art forms such as new music, sound, dance, video art and design in a harmonic and non-hierarchical manner. This production was inspired by the collection of Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation as well as several poems of Greek mythology.

Full film:

‘Music and dance performance inspired by the collections of the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation and Cypriot folklore. During the performance, a video art animation based on geometrical motifs from the BoCCF’s collections will be projected on the set and directly on the dancer’s massive dress. This will provide a visual interpretation of the musicians’ sounds, combined with pre-recorded material, and will serve as an extension of the dancer’s gestural palette.

The performance’s themes draw upon the island’s folklore and on Greek mythology, exploring the idea of confinement as obstacle, punishment, sacrifice and means of redemption. As implied by the title “Desmōtēs”, this includes myths about prisoners such as the sacrifice of Prometheus, the immuration of Antigone and the captivity of Persephone.

An artistic endeavour bound to fascinate and thrill!’
